ABSTRACT

This chapter will bring together all of the reading skills discussed so far in the text and will develop the central theme of the book, which relates to literacy development through meaningful experiences. In this chapter, the author will illustrate how a range of reading skills can be taught in a cohesive manner using connected text. Connected texts can consist of large-format books, language experience charts, and poetry or rhyme charts. Planning grids will be provided for the reader to assist them with implementing this approach in their own classroom.
