ABSTRACT

In Poland, the conservation of historic textiles such as tapestries and other large woven wall hangings is usually undertaken by conservation studios based within national and ecclesiastical museums. Large museums with varied and rich collections such as the two main royal palaces (in Warsaw and Krakow), as well as those museums described as ‘national’ (in Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan and Wroclaw) support their own dedicated conservation departments which are organised according to the specific profile of the institution and the needs of the collection. Such conservation departments include separate textile conservation studios.
