ABSTRACT
It may seem paradoxical that in our ever-shrinking ‘global village’ where information and capital transactions zip across cyberspace in nanoseconds, we are witnessing enormous urban growth and concentration at just the time when predictions were that spacial proximity would become irrelevant and cities would implode or wither away – to be replaced by endless suburban sprawl or electronically connected estates on top of scenic mountains or ocean bluffs.
