Whilst Chapter 3 has focused on marine renewable technologies with special emphasis on the UK, this chapter scans more widely to include the opportunities that occur in different climates.
The sun is the primary source of renewable energy. Besides offering a direct source of energy, it drives the Earth’s climate creating opportunities to draw energy from wind, waves, tides (together with the moon) and a host of biological sources. It is particularly appropriate as an energy source for buildings. The following paragraphs are by way of an introduction. More detailed explanations will appear later.
