The anatomy of retail buying
The purpose of this chapter is to consider the issues associated with the management of buying and merchandising within retail organisations. The aims of the chapter are as follows:
to review the importance of effective and efficient buying and merchandising within retail organisations;
to identify the principle buying activities; to examine the nature and characteristics of retail buying structures; to review the mechanisms by which buyer’s performance is reviewed and evaluated; to review the key stages in new supplier evaluation and selection.
