Retail store design
The purpose of this chapter is to first and foremost highlight the significance of store design as a key consideration for all retailers (Doyle and Broadbridge; 1999). In so doing, it will integrate the principles of design with their application in the retail context through relevant exemplars. This chapter will identify that store design is not solely concerned with the establishment of interiors that may be perceived as attractive and/or functional, but has implications for the public face of the retailer. It also suggests that retail design is a management issue and that design is a creative response to a set of given conditions.
