WithTom Hinch and Suzanne de la Barre

More specifically, this chapter explores the potential for sporting events to serve as cultural tourist attractions that facilitate authentic experiences in northern Canada. It does this by describing how culturally based sporting events can be positioned as tourist attractions and by highlighting the fundamental issues that exist in relation to this strategy. The latter half of the chapter examines the potential of the Arctic Winter Games to function as a tourist attraction.
