Shortly after this experience an interview with Percy Barnevik, president and CEO of ABB (Asea Brown Boveri), was published in the Harvard Business Review (March-April 1991). He was asked, "Is there such a thing as a global manager?" His response, "Yes, but we don't have many. One of ABB's biggest priorities is to create more of them; it is a crucial bottleneck for us." The interviewer continued, "Where do these new managers come from?" Barnevik responded, "Global managers are made not born."
