ABSTRACT

Joan Bennett sat in her office at Table Tennis Australia (TTA) and looked at the yearly planner. While the normal daily activities associated with running a National Sporting Federation were listed, the major highlight was the inclusion of an Australian leg of the 2008 Pro Tour Series to be held in July (see Figure 13.1). While table tennis had been part of the Olympic and

Commonwealth Games for some time now, having a major international tournament as part of the professional circuit presented an opportunity to move Australian Table Tennis into the mainstream in media, sponsorship and sporting terms, both in Australia and internationally. The potential opportunities to grow the sport and attract interest from sponsors and the media would be the challenge for TTA.
