ABSTRACT

Case Summary The locker room in sports often perpetuates the adversarial relationship between athletes and reporters. While reporters find the locker room a pragmatic location to conduct interviews, many athletes consider reporters as invaders of their domain. Although the athletes do not like the arrangement, the open locker room exists for the four major professional sports teams in the USA. The locker room is open to both female and male reporters as sport organizations are required to provide equal access. This case study examines the harassment females have endured in the locker room, their coping strategies, the issues surrounding decisions to open and close locker rooms, and whether or not more stringent policies, procedures, and repercussions need to be implemented to reduce harassment behaviours.
