ABSTRACT

What is a MIDI sequencer? A MIDI sequencer is a device that can be used to record, edit and play back MIDI data. Most MIDI sequencers are based around a software program that is designed to run on a computer. These programs offer many different ways to display and manipulate MIDI information and provide a convenient way to capture and store your musical ideas. Note: in order to use a computer and a MIDI sequencer you will need to have the relevant MIDI sequencing software installed before you start. In this chapter we will introduce you to some of the basic functions that you would normally expect to find in a MIDI sequencer. You may also find this chapter useful if you are planning to use a Digital Audio Workstation, as many functions that can be used to manipulate MIDI information can also be used to manipulate audio.
