ABSTRACT

Reports indicate that the incidence of leiomy­ omata, or fibroids, in pregnancy varies between 0.5% and 7%.1-3 Leiomyomata are more com­ monly found among older women and black women.4 Leiomyomata are 3 to 9 times more common in black than in white women.5 In this chapter we intend to discuss the natural history of uterine leiomyomata in pregnancy, the diag­ nosis, the outcome of pregnancy in women with uterine leiomyomata, and the place of myomec­ tomy during pregnancy and at the time of cesarean section.
