ABSTRACT
Since this book is written primarily for practicing psychiatrists, the emphasis in this chapter is on identifying lithium-responsive patients clinically, differentiating them from patients with other mood disorders, and on providing some background needed for understanding how the response characteristics can be applied in practice.
