ABSTRACT

CASE PRESENTATION A 59-year-old right-handed woman developed progressive generalized pain, stiffness, and slowness of movement, attributed to arthritis and fibrositis. Various anti-inflammatory and antidepressant medications provided no benefit. Two-and-a-half years into her illness, she fell and broke her left hip. She returned to walking, but experienced persistent disequilibrium. Three years after onset, a rheumatologist thought she showed evidence of parkinsonism, and referred her for neurologic evaluation.
