ABSTRACT
Turkish culture has traditionally emphasized paternal authority and family loyalty, and children are typically expected to care for their parents, even if they are demented. Relative caregivers of demented patients do not want to place their patients in nursing homes. In Turkey, demented patients are cared for mostly by their spouses or by their eldest daughter in their homes.
