ABSTRACT

The contribution of the neurologist in the multidisciplinary setting A wide array of neurological diseases may present with cognitive impairment or dementia. The large majority of dementias are caused by vascular dementia and degenerative brain diseases, of which Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal degeneration and dementia with Lewy bodies are the most prevalent. The identification of more rare symptomatic causes of dementia, e.g. neuroinflammatory and neuroinfectious diseases, intracranial tumour or normal pressure hydrocephalus, also relies on the neurologist.
