Part 2 GETTING IDEAS GOING

The work described in this part explores ways of using language to generate ideas, find things out, explore, research, hypothesise, plan…This involves children researching spoken and written texts, listening carefully and responding to other people’s ideas and combing carefully through written texts to select material for their own purposes. One of the key points made by the three teachers whose work is included here is the importance of models and examples. This in itself implies a need for thoughtful and informed planning of classroom activities and raises some critical points about theories of teaching and learning.
