Timely, accurate and relevant information is required for appropriate public health planning and monitoring in order to ensure that improved health outcomes are achieved and maintained. This chapter reviews the state of play in respect of information for public health and how it can be collected and disseminated to optimal effect. We concentrate on information for England, making reference to similar sources for Wales, Scotland and Ireland where these are available.We also touch on international data, especially those from Europe.
