PRIVATIZATION IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE
Although most countries have developed western-style publicity campaigns to sell privatization these have, with the exception of Czechoslovakia, not been successful in convincing the public to apply for shares. The belief is still widespread:
1 that only the worst companies are being privatized in order to dump them; and
2 that advertising is required only for goods that will not otherwise sell, i.e. the advertising itself is often counter-productive.
