This paper summarizes recent experiences in the privatization of Polish stateowned enterprises.

From the author’s perspective three issues are worth mentioning at the very beginning. The first one relates to the notion of privatization. Poland, as well as other post-communist countries in Eastern Europe, is currently undergoing radical transformation of her socio-political and economic systems, of which privatization, although crucial, represents only one component. This makes the overall environment for privatization completely different from that of several developed and developing countries where privatization has been confined to a relatively small public sector.
