ABSTRACT

Increased placental mass, or so-called hyperplacentosis, excessive maternal weight or weight gain and advanced maternal age are all commonly associated with gestational diabetes1-3. Coincidentally, all of these same pro-diabetic factors are increased during a typical multiple pregnancy. Hence, it could be anticipated that increased rates of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are seen during multiple gestations. The fact is, however, that the association between GDM and multiple pregnancies is not so clear.
