ABSTRACT

Introduction Aortopulmonary window (APW) is an abnormal communication between the ascending aorta and the main pulmonary artery, just above two normally formed semilunar valves. It is the rarest of the four types of septal defects and accounts for approximately 0.15% of all congenital cardiac defects.1 Just one or two neonates present with this problem in a given year.2 It may occur as an isolated lesion but is more commonly associated with other cardiovascular anomalies such as transposition of great arteries, tetralogy of Fallot, and interrupted aortic arch.3,4 Complex APW accounts for about 25% of all patients.
