ABSTRACT

Dear Consultant: I am a seasoned group therapist who was recently asked by the administration to start a group therapy program at my clinic. I was excited by the prospect because I know how powerful group therapy can be as a form of treatment. The clinic has a long waiting list of clients as a result of the full case loads of our therapists. For the past 6 months, I have talked with these therapists about the effectiveness of group therapy, indications for group therapy, and promoting group therapy to some of their appropriate individual patients. In addition, I recommended to the administration that we start a short-term group for the waiting list patients, where they could be further assessed for individual or group treatment, and then be moved into a longer term group if appropriate.
