Dear Consultant: I was trained in psychodynamic group psychotherapy and have no experience running short-term groups. In a recent job change, one of my tasks is to supervise nurses who run short-term wellness, obesity, cancer support, trauma, and medical illness groups. Many of the groups are started with patients who come into specific clinics. They sign up for the groups and there is virtually no screening of patients before they begin. This leads to a lot of early drop out and sometimes has led to chaos.
