ABSTRACT

The appropriate condition for desulfurization of coal by electrochemical reduction floatation was determined through experiments and the effect of electrolytic conditions on desulfurization rate was studied. The results show that the best condition of desulfurization from coal by electrochemical reduction floatation in NaCl water solution system is: T = 55°C, t = 20 min, V = 10 V, [coal] = 0.06 g/ml, [NaCl] = 1.0 mol/1. With the increase of reaction temperature, electrolytic time, electrolytic voltage, coal concentration, and electrolyte concentration, the desulfurization rate increases at first but it decreases after reaching a certain point. The coal structure has not been destroyed and pyrite has been deoxidized into FeS after desulfurization by electrochemical reduction, which is favorable for the floatation of coal. Being effective and safe in desulfurization of coal, this method will have a wide prospect of application.
