ABSTRACT

A study was conducted to control the ground pressure of continuous mining method (CMM) at Fenghuangshan Copper Mine in China. Controlled blasting has been used to form the temporary ore rib pillar to reduce temporarily the span of exposed hanging wall and footwall of stope. Poly-hydrate cementing materials and full tailing were backfilled into adjacent gob areas, respectively. Some measures were taken to reduce explosion-induced damage to the pillar and cemented backfilling body during the long-hole blasting. Arrangements were made to mount the 30-meter-long multiple point extensometers in the pillar to monitor its deformation and some manometers in the cemented filling body to measure the change of its interior pressure. The behavior of ground pressure is well monitored. The results of experiment indicate that these methods are useful to control ground pressure, their effects are satisfactory to keep stope safe. They can provide some references for applying CMM in other mines.
