ABSTRACT

In patients with pelvic organ prolapse, imaging can be used as an adjunct to the physical examination, especially when pelvic examination is equivocal. Pelvic physical examination is the traditional and established method to evaluate patients with pelvic organ prolapse, and imaging is usually performed to answer speci¢c questions such as the presence or absence of enteroceles, rectoceles, sigmoidoceles, rectal intussusception, and pelvic £oor abnormalities. Imaging may also be performed in patients with severe or recurrent prolapse to delineate the pelvic compartments that are abnormal prior to repeat surgery or other therapy.
