ABSTRACT

Psychotic symptoms rarely occur in untreated Parkinson’s disease (PD) (1,2) or in PD patients with a concomitant psychiatric illness such as schizophrenia (3). Much more commonly, psychotic symptoms occur as a complication of PD drug therapy (4-6), in which all anti-PD drugs have been implicated (7-9). It is the single most important factor precipitating nursing home placement (10-12). Psychotic symptoms in PD can be subdivided into three general categories: hallucinations, psychosis, and delirium.
