ABSTRACT
No-till farming signifies a major shift in the conceptual basis of soil management for crop production.* It signifies much more than another method of seedbed preparation and the elimination of plowing. The concept challenges the scientific basis of "plowing" as an original, universal method of soil preparation. It questions the wisdom of repeatedly disturbing soil ecosystems. Nothing in nature matches the drastic perturbation of surface soils resulting from frequent plowing.
