ABSTRACT

Water resources development (WRD) is important for the strengthening of national economic status. Dams, reservoirs and irrigation systems have been designed and constructed with the primary intentions of converting water into energy and irrigating agricultural land. WRD projects produce relatively clean energy that is cheap for investment and operation. It has been an ideal means of economic development for most countries in the world, particularly during the early period of the twentieth century when many dams and irrigation schemes were built. Thailand has been no exception (Figure 14.1).
