ABSTRACT

EWINC started work in February 1982 and exists to give free help on a one-to-one basis to any person walking in from the street with a problem in numeracy, basic maths or related areas: over 6,000 enquiries have been handled. There is also an active Resources Unit producing teaching materials for the EWINC tutors as well as for other agencies working in ABE. Outreach work is also developing in certain Edinburgh districts, mainly through contacts with existing organisations. A major new development is the production of a series of radio programmes on numeracy broadcast on Radio Forth in late 1986; this is the result of a collaborative project, with Forth Action and SABEU. EWINC is supported by the MSC through the Community Programme.
