ABSTRACT

I decided to present in this way, to include the audience in an actual empowerment group experience, rather than just make a speech on empowerment groups. I thank Al Alissi and Catherine Corto Mergins, co-chairs, for making this experience possible. Hav ing the Symposium in Hartford gave me a unique opportunity to involve the women and staff of My Sisters ' Place (MSP) in present ing their work in their own voices rather than just referring to them as silent "co-authors" of the empowerment approach. MSP is a

three-program (and growing) agency serving homeless and former ly homeless women and children in inner-city Hartford.
