ABSTRACT

Language-the relational tool par excellence-pervades everything we do. It is a major tool in the work of all clergy who provide Jewish relational care. Be it the communal language relating to text or prayer, or the caregiving language we use, it is imperative that rabbis and other clergy be, first and foremost, professional relational communicators. Viewing ourselves this way unifies the disparate aspects of the vital work we do and helps prevent burnout. This chapter is about using your mouth as a relational tool to get results worth having and to amplify your caregiving ability.
