ABSTRACT
Hypermedia and multimedia applications connect nodes of information through links. A link connects one card, window, field, screen, or node to another card, window, field, screen, or node. Links are the essence of multimedia applications. A well-designed set of links reveals information and helps users attain their objectives. A poorly designed set of links misinforms users or inadvertently hides things from them. In this chapter we
provide you with a definition of links,
discuss the characteristics that links share,
describe the types of links you can incorporate into a multimedia environment, and
present design guidelines to help you understand when and how to use various kinds of links.
