Walking in the United States: A European View: The Followers

The choice of cities in this chapter was, as in Chapter 13, mostly founded on recommendations. The additional study cities were based on the knowledge that the eight cities discussed in Chapter 13 were not enough to get an overall picture about walking in the US. Most of the cities below have a different basis. They were, for instance, not as lucky to keep their rail-based public transport ‐ ation system or they still have a high proportion of suburbanization together with a high level of car journeys. Overall the division into the leaders and followers is not strict and should not be seen as such.1
