A Marxist account of the relationship between commodity money and symbolic money in the context of contemporary capitalist development

In the previous chapter Marx’s conceptualizations of the dialectical relationship between labour, exchange value and abstract labour in the derivation of money were clarified. In this chapter I wish to elaborate on these foundations to present a slightly different approach to an old problem within Marxian-inspired theories of money: namely, how one should interpret Marx’s understanding of the relationship between commodity money and symbolic money.1
