Work and adventure: from poetry to the sociology of religion

During my school days, and at university too, it was not just the fact that I’d later deal with religion that didn’t cross my mind – it seemed extremely improbable too that I would be interested in academia at all. My whole creative energy went into poetry, both in a writing sense and in participating in the more or less organized artistic life of the Bohemian set of the city of Białystok in Poland. This entailed participation in literary contests, poetry festivals, evenings involving readings of poems, and also meetings of a social-literary group of a few people discussing our latest works and organizing workshops.
