Happy reunion or brothers only in name? Mainlander Taiwanese in China

Introduction While most research on migration and China focuses on the Chinese overseas, little attention has been paid to migration into China.News from the press and research findings suggest that most people moving into China are professionals exploring business opportunities. Between 2004 and 2005 it was estimated that more than 175,000 Westerners and 750,000 Taiwanese lived in China, most of them working as entrepreneurs or high-ranking managers in multinational or Taiwanese firms (Lin 2009; see also Chapters 4 and 5 in this volume).2
