ABSTRACT

Fe-and Al-oxisols have been applied as soils liners at mining sites, acting as chemical barriers for As fixation, and thus inhibiting its eventual seepage to surrounding soils, groundwater, and the environment (Ladeira & Ciminelli 2004). The present work evaluates the stability of As-sulfide tailings from gold mining activities and the As uptake by the iron (Fe) and aluminium (Al) enriched oxisols after 10 years of disposal. The findings will help to establish the conditions for mining tailings disposal aiming at long-term stability.
