ABSTRACT
Rock and tailing materials were sampled following drilling and mineral processing respectively at a vanadium mining site. Materials were ground to obtain particles with 1 to 4 mm diameter, and placed-100 cm3 of each material-into PVC leaching columns. A total of 12 samples (11 rocks and 1 tailing) were submitted to simulated weathering dynamic tests to evaluate the kinetics of sulfide oxidation and As mobilization. Columns were periodically leached with distilled water. Due to the very fine particle size of the tailing, it was mixed with quartz (1 to 2 mm diameter) at 1:1 (v/v) ratio to improve the hydraulic conductivity.
