ABSTRACT

With the increased use of groundwater through irrigation-pumps, arsenic (As) con tamination of water at different depths of soil sur face was observed (Uddin & Khan 2004) which may have contributed substan tially to the spread of arsenic in the top soil-crop-food (Meharg & Rahman 2003). This arsenic has the potentiality to cause recontamination of the groundwater through leaching and mobilization from soil which should be quantified and characterized. This study presents the leaching characteristics of that potential arsenic by acid-alkali sequential extraction.
