ABSTRACT

Jane Goodall often says, “We are stealing the planet from our children.” If we continue to develop with the same values which have allowed us to steal the planet from our children, the consequences will be tragic. However, value systems which could enable us to effect a midcourse correction do exist. Recognizing various dimensions of human life, the Indie traditions have built an enduring foundation for an environmental friendly value system and a balanced lifestyle (Singhvi, 1995). From the classical knowledge of Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagvat Gita, and Hindu epics to the contemporary ideals of a just world order, Hinduism and ecology are completely intertwined.
