Since the earliest recorded history of humankind, religion, in its ideal form, has been the major source of life, future, and redemption. At the same time, it has been abused as the ultimate source of fear, hatred, strife, war, and death. The Talmud paraphrased this accurately by equating the holy Torah to the tree of life, which, when misused, becomes the drug of death.1
