As Keating (2007) and Luft and Ward (2009) found, failing to adopt an intersectional approach to social justice interventions may further marginalize individuals and groups and may also lead to increased backlash. Ultimately, as the African American Policy Forum (n.d.) (an organization co-founded by Kimberlé Crenshaw) pointed out, intersectional theory provides “a critical lens for bringing

awareness and capacity to the social justice industry in order to expand and deepen its interventions” (p. 3).
