ABSTRACT

SCR 1325 is evidence of women’s signifi cance to and struggle for equal participation in security issues. It has as its central purpose an aim to empower women and root out violence against them in confl icts and alter their roles from passive to active. In a body such as the Security Council controlled and dominated by powerful states who do not want to renounce the arms race or minimal sovereignty, SCR 1325 stands out as a recognition of change. Despite UN policy change, these requirements have not eliminated the insecurity that surrounds women.
