ABSTRACT

Introduction To pursue its goal of “reunification” with Taiwan, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) led government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has been employing a range of “conventional” and “unconventional” stratagems and tools. “Conventional” tools refer mainly to military hardware and software systems, which are part of the ongoing build-up and modernization of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Second Artillery forces of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). In addition, the PRC has also been building up its capabilities to employ “unconventional” stratagems and tools, including such channels as the United Front (UF), and psychological, information and electronic warfare, as well as Shashaiojian weapons. The PLA has also been building up of a range of “special forces” capabilities that would be appropriate for executing rapid “decapitation” strategies, or for assisting larger conventional military operations against Taiwan and possibly, the United States (US) and Japan.
