ABSTRACT

Lymph node dissection (LND) in prostate cancer remains a controversial issue and, unlike in other cancers, such as colorectal,1 gynecological,2 gastric,3 and bladder cancer,4,5 its role and importance have yet not been clearly defi ned. Although it is generally accepted that LND provides important information regarding tumor staging and prognosis (number of nodes involved, tumor volume, capsular perforation), which currently cannot be obtained by other methods, a consensus has yet to be reached as to when an LND is indicated and to what extent it should be performed.
