ABSTRACT

The operation described herein involves a disciplined team approach with key members, appropriate operating room conditions, and skilled communication (Appendix A). The goal is removal of prostate, seminal vesicles, and regional lymph nodes while exacting minimal tissue injury to the structures to be preserved, in particular the NVBs, membranous urethra with its striated urethral sphincter, and the levator ani as major elements of pelvic fl oor protection.
