ABSTRACT

On a routine office visit, your patient informs you that a friend of his just had a stroke and was told that it was caused by a blockage in his carotid artery. The patient states that he is concerned about his own health. He inquires about whether he also has a blockage in his carotid artery, whether he should undergo a test to screen for it, and about his prognosis if he does have a carotid stenosis.
