ABSTRACT
An attempt to diagnose pain is helpful but in reality a symptom-orientated approach is used, dividing pain largely into nociceptive or neuropathic categories.
Management Many of these pains are neuropathic in origin and logic would dictate that tricyclic antidepressants, anticonvulsants, the use of lidocaine patches and capsaicin cream would be valuable.
